Mike Langford - Canon Master
We left our accommodation at 4.00am in order to arrive at Borobudur in time for sunrise.
There were a surprisingly large number of people on the temple when we arrived but once the sun had risen they all disappeared. We were there to photograph the temple and not the sunrise so everything worked out well for us. Sometimes it’s necessary to just sit, wait and watch for things to change before starting to photograph. This allows me to get into the zone of being there. What I love about this shot, is the rough hardness of the volcanic rock bell shaped structures on the top tier of the temple against the soft mist in the valley below. This contrast created a very meditative feeling, befitting of this huge 9th century temple in the jungle of central Java.
